The Dreamland Podcast: On Fentanyl, Meth, Tents, and San Francisco
My conversation with Adam Mesnick, a SF deli owner who became an activist due to the open-air drug use/sales on the streets that surrounded his business.
I met Adam Mesnick on a trip to San Francisco recently.
He spoke a lot about the issues that had consumed his life and deli business in the last decade: the spread of open-air drug use nearby, fentanyl, meth.
He became an amateur documentarian, posting constant photos on social media of the human condition on the streets near his business.
He talked about the corrosive effects of tents on the street, and the policies of harm reduction and housing first, which he believes damaged the city.
We spoke a couple times — this coming a few months after San Francisco had shifted on these policies, electing a new mayor and a more moderate majority on its Board of Supervisors.
So change was also in the air.
