I have to say that you are a very tough critic. Though it undoubtedly adds to your credibility as a reviewer.

Did you ever read the Hardy Boys as a kid? I used to love them and other mystery books (even read Nancy Drew too). I loved being immersed in a world where law enforcement were unequivocally the good guys.

And have you ever thought of writing your own crime novel fiction based upon the real life situations you reported on? Something that broke the traditional mold of crime fiction to look at the muddied waters.

(Didn't realize you reported on Stockton - hasn't been the same since Tilly Lewis sold her cannery. Reminds me of a line I once used with a friend who managed campaigns. "Well dude, you survived Stockton, so....").

This is such a well told tale of the truth of being a reporter. You are part of a lost art, Sam. The story about Eddie really got me. That is the hazy, murky, no bow on it, end of a tragic crime...and I also appreciate your comments about another professional writer who took her craft in a disciplined way...not your cup of tea...but respect. I love that.
